I have been reading in matthew lately and last night i was reading and this passage just stuck out to me. In Matthew 4:18-22 it starts out with Jesus walking along the sea of Galilee, and there he calls on his first disciples....and whe he calls on them he says: "Come, follow me, and i will make you fishers of men." And immedietly after He says that...They drop what they are doing, and follow him. To me that is amazing...like they didn't ask "why" or complain about it because they were doing something else...they simply got up...dropped what they were doing...and followed their Savior! As Christians we are called to be Disciples, and to follow Jesus. But how often do we actually follow him? Most of the time we make up excuses as to why we cant follow him and try to explain to him why His plan is not what is good for us. Like we forget that God is in complete controll and that he has a Perfect plan for our lives. Why can't we get up and follow Jesus with our whole hearts instead of half-heartedly and make excuses for everything, as if God doesn't know whats best for us. This passage just stuck out to me, and I think it is a perfect example of what it looks like to follow our Savior(:

Great post, Amanda! The crazy thing is that the guys had probably seen Jesus teach or heard of the incredible things he had been doing. They had received a taste of what He had to offer and jumped at the opportunity to experience more. Even if that meant putting aside their plans to follow Him.
ReplyDeleteAs a Christians we have received much more than just a taste of our Savior's blessings, yet we almost seem inconvenienced by His request to follow Him.
How amazing would it be if each one of us actually answered the radical call He has on our lives?
Thanks chad:) Yeah I know its amazing how they just get up and drop what they were doing...even though they were doing other things at the time, they werent like "hey Jesus thanks for asking me to follow you, but im kinda busy right now, if you give me a couple days ill get back to you on that." Like they KNEW how amazing there savior was and jumped at the opportunity like you said.
ReplyDeleteAnd us as christians ALREADY know how amazing he is and still we wont get up off the couch even to go do something God asks of us....its crazy!!!
